Richmond is located on Lulu Island, it lies where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean and is home to Vancouver International Airport. Richmond is easily accessible by the Arthur Laing Bridge, Oak Street Bridge and Knight Street Bridge and is well served by the Canada Line Rapid Transit system. The neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, Delta, Tsawwassen BC Ferry Terminal and the US border are to the south, New Westminster to the east, and the Strait of Georgia forms its western border.

Perimeter dyke trails are frequently used for biking and walking, offering scenic views of the north shore mountains and natural areas which are perfect for a variety of birds and other wildlife. Richmond is a diverse urban centre with a blend of residential, commercial, industrial, natural areas and waterways and agricultural lands. Richmond is a shopping mecca with lots of malls and specialty stores, the new outlet mall by the airport, and an unlimited variety of international cuisine. Richmond has over 145 parks, 70+ km of scenic trails and and 60 km of cycling routes.

The Coast Salish bands used the island to fish and collect berries in the summer months they lived at Garry Point and Woodward's Landing along with the Terra Nova Cannery which had been at one time a Musqueam village.  Steveston historic fishing village has a rich history for the west coast fishing industry and is a vibrant community with shops, restaurants and coffee houses. Visit the national sites of the area; Steveston Museum, Britannia Heritage Shipyard Park, Murakami House and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery or take a boat tour for whale watching. Steveston is frequently used as a filming location for television series and movies, most recent is Once Upon A Time tv series. Other attractions include London Farm, Finn Slough, the Buddhist Temple and lots of fresh fruit and vegetable markets along Steveston Hwy.
